General Facts About Colorado

1871 marked the beginning for Colorado Springs as a bustling city, when General William Jackson Palmer approved construction on the first business in the area known as downtown Colorado Springs.  General William Jackson Palmer was a Pennsylvania born civil war veteran who in his travels with the railroad fell in love with southeastern Colorado.  In 1867 the Union Pacific Railroad sent General Palmer and a survey crew to find the best route for the California to Kansas line.   General Palmer bought 10,000 acres for   $1.25 per acre during one of his survey trips in what is now Colorado Springs.  CLICK HERE FOR MORE COLORADO SPRINGS HISTORY
