General Facts About Colorado
1871 marked the beginning for Colorado Springs as a bustling
city, when General William Jackson Palmer approved construction on the first
business in the area known as downtown Colorado Springs. General
William Jackson Palmer was a Pennsylvania born civil war veteran who in his
travels with the railroad fell in love with southeastern Colorado. In
1867 the Union Pacific Railroad sent General Palmer and a survey crew to
find the best route for the California to Kansas line. General
Palmer bought 10,000 acres for $1.25 per acre during one of his
survey trips in what is now Colorado Springs.

HEAD OFF THEFT HEADING OUT OF TOWN
|
Planning a short last minute trip or planning the trip of
a life time both still require some thought and preparation prior to
leaving. Thieves like easy targets, and an empty house is an easy
target. Keep your home and identity safe while you are gone by making
your home look like you are still there. If you have a pet, hire
a neighbor kid to come over to feed, water and play with the pet. The
presence of the neighbor kid and the pet will keep things looking like the
homeowners are still home. The interior of you house should look lived
in as well. Buy a timer for a lamp in one of
your front windows so the light comes on and off automatically. Set it
to your routine, so
|
there is little change to an outsider. One of
the biggest clues to a thief is the pile of blue wrapped newspapers
piling up on the driveway. This is an easy fix, just call the
Gazette and have your service put on hold. You will save
money, because they put the billing on hold as well. You will also
want to keep your mail from sitting in your mailbox for anyone to drive
by and help themselves to. Mail stolen from mailboxes is one of
the main causes of identity theft. You can call the post office
and do it as you drive out of town. They are able to hold the mail
as quick as the next day. Deterrence is the best way to head
off a crime.
